Buy SkyMiles miles
There are four realistic ways to add SkyMiles to an account: buy direct from Delta Air Lines, earn them, transfer eligible partner points, or ask us for an independent quote. Because SkyMiles price dynamically, buy-side requests should always start from the specific award price Delta is showing for your dates.
How to buy SkyMiles
| Option | How it works | Advantages | Limitations |
|---|---|---|---|
| Buy direct from Delta Air Lines | Purchase through the airline's own official Buy Miles page where it is offered. | Straightforward, within programme terms, sometimes bonused. | Retail pricing, annual purchase caps, and price varies with promotions. |
| Earn through flying and partners | Miles are earned on Delta and SkyTeam flights, American Express co-brand cards, SkyMiles Shopping and partner activity. Medallion status is driven by Medallion Qualification Dollars. | No purchase cost, and flights also earn status credit. | Slow if you need a specific balance for a booking soon. |
| Transfer eligible partner points | Delta supports gifting and transferring miles for a fee, and American Express Membership Rewards transfers into SkyMiles. | Can be cheaper than buying, and ratios are sometimes bonused. | Transfers are usually irreversible and are governed by both providers' terms. |
| Request a MilesQuote quote | Tell us the shortfall and the award you are trying to book; we review it and reply with an indicative figure or an honest no. | Independent comparison against the direct price, no published rate to talk you into. | No guaranteed price, no guaranteed availability, and programme terms still govern your account. |
How much SkyMiles cost
Delta sells SkyMiles directly through its official website; promotional bonuses appear from time to time. That direct price is your benchmark. Any third-party figure — ours included — should be compared against it with taxes and carrier-imposed surcharges included, not against the headline award price alone.
Run the arithmetic before committing with the miles vs cash calculator, which compares the full award total against the cash fare.
How SkyMiles awards are priced
Redemptions are made on Delta and partner flights, plus upgrades, Delta Vacations and Delta Sky Club access purchases in some cases.
Delta's revenue-based awards mean a cents-per-mile figure is only meaningful in relation to the cash fare on the same flight.
When buying miles makes sense
- You have already found award space on your exact dates.
- You are short by a modest amount and only need to buy the shortfall.
- The award is a premium cabin where the cash fare is several times the award cost.
- The all-in award total is clearly below the cash fare, not marginally below it.
When buying miles usually does not make sense
- You are buying speculatively, with no confirmed award availability.
- The saving is under roughly ten per cent — cash keeps flexibility and earning.
- Surcharges absorb most of the fare you were trying to avoid.
- The redemption is short-haul economy against an already-cheap fare.

Current promotions
We do not publish promotion claims. Airline purchase bonuses appear and expire quickly, so check Delta Air Lines's official purchase page for what is live today and treat any third-party promotion table as advertising.
Before you buy
- Confirm award availability on your exact dates before buying any miles.
- Compare any quote against Delta Air Lines's own purchase price, including promotions.
- Include taxes and carrier-imposed surcharges in the total cost.
- Read Delta Air Lines's programme terms — they govern your account, not us.
