Why agencies get stuck on award tickets
Award tickets sit outside the GDS workflows most agencies use. Pricing varies by programme, partner space appears and disappears, surcharges differ by carrier, and the ticket is usually issued from the traveller's own loyalty account. Researching a single premium-cabin award can take hours, and the answer is often "not on those dates".
That makes award requests hard to price as agency work, yet turning them away sends a valuable client elsewhere. MilesQuote is exploring a few ways to help agencies keep those clients while we handle the award-specific research.
How a collaboration could work
Award research on request
You pass us the client's route, dates, cabin and the programmes they hold. We research realistic award options and return a written summary — miles, taxes, how to book and whether cash is the better choice — that you can share with your client.
Qualified-lead referral
If you prefer not to handle award trips at all, you can refer the traveller to us with their consent, and we take the conversation from there. Any referral arrangement would be agreed in writing beforehand.
White-label, subject to arrangement
For agencies with steady volume, a co-branded or white-label workflow may be possible. It depends on the requests involved and who is responsible for each step, so it is something we discuss case by case, not a product we are promising.
Typical use cases
- A client holds a large miles or bank-points balance and wants business class for a long-haul trip.
- A family wants to use miles for several seats in peak season and needs a realistic picture early.
- A corporate traveller wants to redeem personal miles for a leisure extension.
- A client is short of miles for a specific award and wants to know whether topping up makes sense — see buying miles.
What we would ask for on each request
Origin and destination, dates and flexibility, passengers, cabin, the loyalty programmes and approximate balances the client holds, and any constraints such as preferred airlines or stopovers. We never need the client's loyalty-account password, and we will not ask for it.
How we would handle your clients
Your client relationship stays yours. In a research arrangement, we reply to you, not your client, unless you ask otherwise. In a referral arrangement, we contact a traveller only after they have agreed to be introduced. Every traveller is told plainly that award seats depend on airline availability and that nothing is held or ticketed until the airline programme confirms it.
We also say when an award is not the best use of miles — when the cash fare is low, surcharges are heavy, or the only routing is impractical. That honesty protects your reputation as much as ours.
Who this is likely to suit
Leisure and luxury agencies whose clients hold large points balances, independent advisers who receive occasional award questions, and small corporate travel teams handling employee leisure trips. Agencies looking for bulk inventory, consolidator fares or an automated booking engine are better served elsewhere — we do not offer those.
Quotes by request, not a rate card
We do not publish wholesale rates, commissions or service levels, and we have no existing agency partnerships to point to. Terms for any collaboration — scope, fees if any, response expectations and data handling — would be proposed after we understand your needs, and agreed in writing. Award availability is controlled by airlines, so no arrangement can guarantee fulfilment of a specific request.
