Earning AAdvantage miles

Redemptions cover American flights, oneworld and partner flights, upgrades and Web Special fares. Availability at lower mileage levels is the main constraint.
Expiry rules
Miles generally expire after a defined period of account inactivity; qualifying earning or redeeming activity resets the clock. Verify the current window with American.
Transfers and pooling
American offers mileage sharing and gifting for a fee, and some bank and hotel programmes convert to AAdvantage. All movement is governed by American's terms.

Where the value sits
